Building Bridges in a Divided World - January 4, 2026

There’s something about a bridge.

A bridge stands as a defiant declaration — that what’s been separated can be reunited, that distance doesn’t have the final say. A bridge refuses to let division win.

Ephesians 2:13–16 : “But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.”

If Jesus tore the wall down, you don’t have the right to build it back up!

The Cross Was a Construction Site.

When Jesus stretched out His arms on that cross, He was doing construction work. That wood became scaffolding for reconciliation!

  • Walls separate. Bridges connect.
  • Walls say stay out. Bridges say come over.

 Two Bridges, Two Lessons

  • Still standing — but connecting nothing.
  • Still singing — but reaching no one.

Hey Church — we’ve got a choice:

Will we be stuck where the river used to flow,
or will we stretch out into where God is moving now?

Bridge Building Is Our Calling.

2 Corinthians 5:18 : “God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.”

  • Bridge builders are peacemakers, not peacekeepers. There’s a difference.
  • Peacekeepers preserve what was, but peacemakers create what could be.

Here are Two Ways to Build Bridges

1. Practice Proximity

John 1:14 - “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood.”

Because bridges don’t start with opinions — they start with presence.

2. Choose Reconciliation Over Retaliation

Romans 12:18 says, “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.”

  • When somebody hits you with hostility, you respond with humility.
  • When they curse you, you bless them.
  • When they slam the door, you keep holding out hope.

Will you create a Legacy of a Bridge Builder?

That’s what real bridge builders do — they connect generations. They leave behind something that keeps people moving long after they’re gone.

  • Stop maintaining old walls!
  • Stop living behind barriers of bitterness and blame!
  • Start building bridges of mercy and grace!

Say this out loud with me:

“I am a bridge builder.”

So, if you want 2026 to be different and experience peace, power, and provision, let Jesus complete the bridge from heaven to your heart today.
