Courageous Prayer // The Table Discussion Questions - February 26, 2026

Psalm 139:23–24

👉 START HERE (Choose 1–2 questions)

These questions are designed to get everyone talking quickly. You do not need to answer all of them. Pick one that feels most alive at your table and start there.

  1. When you hear David pray, “Search me, God,” what surprises you about that?
  2. Which phrase from Psalm 139:23–24 feels most personal or uncomfortable to you tonight?
  3. Do you tend to assume your motives are mostly right — or do you regularly question them?
  4. The teaching suggested that “What you fear most reveals where you trust God least.” What does that stir in you?

🔎 GO DEEPER (Choose 1–2 if time allows)

These questions are for tables that want to explore the ideas more fully. Feel free to skip or jump around.

  1. Why do you think David turns inward in prayer instead of defending himself?
  2. Where do you notice anxiety showing up in your life right now — pressure, control, people-pleasing, avoidance, something else?
  3. Which of these questions hits closest to home:
    • What am I ignoring?
    • What do I make excuses for?
    • What do I overreact to?
  4. Why is it easier to see sin in others than in ourselves?
  5. When God reveals something uncomfortable in you, do you tend to respond with shame, defensiveness, or openness?
  6. What makes this prayer feel courageous rather than casual?

🚶 NEXT STEP (Choose 1 before you end)

These questions help move the conversation toward action, not perfection.

  1. If you prayed this prayer every day this week, what do you think God might surface in you?
  2. Is there one fear you sense God inviting you to trust Him with more fully?
  3. Is there an “offensive way” — an attitude, reaction, or pattern — that needs attention?
  4. Would anyone like prayer for courage to invite God deeper into an area of fear, sin, or direction?

Note

This topic may surface conviction or vulnerability. Stay calm. Don’t rush to solutions.

If the room gets quiet, that’s okay.

If someone becomes reflective or emotional, that’s okay.

Aim for honesty, not self-criticism.

Let grace set the pace.
