Today we're thinking about the idea of being aware of the power. And you can ask the question, well, what? What are the power of what? And the the simple answer is the power of the tongue. The Power of the Tongue Oftentimes we underestimate the trouble or the life that can be created by this little part of our body. Here's the way Proverbs 18:21 says. It says, "death and life are in the power of the tongue." "Death and life are in the power of the tongue."

So today I just want to read you several verses and just get the wheels turning in your mind about the power of our words. Listen to Proverbs 15:1, "a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."

Think about Proverbs 17, starting in verse 27. "One who holds his words has knowledge, and one who has a cool spirit is a person of understanding. Even a fool, when he keeps silent is considered wise when he closes his lips, he is considered prudent."

How about Proverbs 21:23? "One who guards his mouth and his tongue guards his soul from trouble."

How about Proverbs 26:22? "The words of a gossiper are like dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the the body."

Proverbs 29:20 says, "do you see a person who is hasty with his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him."

And then how about Proverbs 18:13? "One who gives an answer before he hears is a foolishness and a shame to him."

And so today I just want to encourage you to think about the power of our tongue. Genesis 1 God created the world from through his words. Genesis 3 His word pronounced cursing on the enemy. In John 1 we're told the word became flesh, and that word is Jesus. And so there's something very powerful about our words, and if we're not careful, they'll put distance between us and other people, they'll put distance between us and God. If we're not careful, we'll rush ahead and not think about the impact and the power of our words.

I have a friend who recently started the process of removing a tattoo from his body. And if you're not familiar with this, there's some sort of laser procedure and you go several, several times, and every time they go, the tattoo fades a little bit more, a little bit more, a little bit more. But at least at the time of this recording, even though it's faded, it's not gone. And that's often the way our words are our words. We may say them without thinking about it. We may think that they're not a big deal, but. But that adage is not true. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. That could not be further from the truth because there are many of us that are walking around that maybe the words have faded a bit like that tattoo, but they're still there.

And so today, my friend, I want to encourage you, think about the power of your words. And if you haven't done so, check out the Book of Proverbs, because Proverbs has so much to say about our tongue.

Have a great day. We'll see you back here soon.
