Spiritual Disciplines - The Table Discussion Questions - May 1, 2025
The Table
What’s one thing you do regularly that took time and practice to become good at?
Which of the four disciplines (silence/solitude, Scripture, prayer, fasting) feels most natural to you? Which one feels hardest?
Why do you think Paul says to “train yourself for godliness” (1 Timothy 4:7)? What does that mean practically?
What makes silence and solitude difficult in your life today?
Have you ever experienced a moment when God spoke to you during a time of quietness?
How could you intentionally create a few minutes of silence each day this week?
When you read the Bible, are you more focused on gaining information or on being transformed?
Share a Bible verse or story that has deeply impacted your life.
What might help you stay consistent in reading and reflecting on Scripture?
What are your biggest obstacles to regular prayer?
Do you prefer structured prayers (like the Lord’s Prayer) or spontaneous conversation with God? Why?
If you could pray one bold prayer this week, what would it be?
Have you ever tried fasting (food or otherwise)? What was your experience?
What is one thing you could fast from (food, media, distractions) to focus more on God?
Why do you think fasting feels so hard — and so powerful — in today’s world?
What is one discipline you want to practice intentionally this week?
How can we encourage each other in these disciplines?
