The Six-Chapter Story of the Bible

Opening Questions

(Choose 1–2 to get the conversation going.)

  1. What was your relationship with the Bible growing up?
    • Did you read it regularly?
    • Did it feel confusing, boring, or meaningful?
    • Has that changed over time?
  2. Have you ever tried to read the Bible and given up? What got in the way?
    • Too long or complicated
    • Didn't know where to start
    • Felt disconnected from your life
    • Something else
  3. Before tonight, could you have explained what the Bible is basically "about" in a few sentences?
    • If yes — what would you have said?
    • If no — what made it feel hard to summarize?

Chapters 1 & 2 — Creation and the Fall

  1. When you picture God at the very beginning — before anything went wrong — what's your gut image of him?
    • Distant and in charge?
    • Close and delighted?
    • Somewhere in between?
    • Where does that image come from?
  2. Chapter Two answers the question: "Why is the world like this?" Does that explanation resonate with you?
    • Does it make sense that one broken choice could ripple that far?
    • Where do you feel the brokenness most in your own life right now?
    • In a relationship? In yourself? In the world around you?

Chapters 3 & 4 — Israel and Jesus

  1. Chapter Three is the longest chapter — God staying patient with a people who keep wandering. What do you make of that kind of God?
    • Does that feel comforting or frustrating to you?
    • Have you ever experienced that kind of patient pursuit in your own life?
    • What does it tell you about what God is like?
  2. The Israelites had a cycle: trust God, drift, cry out, get rescued, drift again. Be honest — does that cycle feel familiar?
    • Where are you in it right now?
    • What usually pulls you back?
    • What usually pulls you away?
  3. Chapter Four is the center of the whole story — Jesus. What's one thing about him that you genuinely find compelling?
    • Something he said
    • Something he did
    • The way he treated people
    • Even if you're still figuring out what to do with it

Chapters 5 & 6 — The Church and the Return

  1. Chapter Five says we're living inside the story right now — not just reading it. How does that land for you?
    • Does it feel true?
    • Does it feel like pressure or like purpose?
    • What would it mean for your week if it's actually true?
  2. If you have a part to play in Chapter Five — what do you think it might be?
    • Something at work? At home? In this room?
    • Something you've been putting off?
    • Something that already feels like it matters?
  3. Chapter Six says the story ends well — everything made new, not destroyed. Does that change how you hold the hard parts of your life right now?
    • Why or why not?
    • Is it easy or hard to believe the story has a good ending?
