START HERE
(Table leaders: choose 1–2. The goal here is to get everyone talking — there isn't a "church answer" you're looking for.)
- What stood out to you from what we just talked about?
- Have you ever finally gotten something you really wanted and realized pretty quickly that it didn't satisfy you the way you thought it would? What was it?
- Jesus tells the crowd that they're looking for him because he fed them, not because they understood what the miracle was pointing toward. What is your gut reaction to Jesus being that direct with them?
- Why do you think we're so quick to move from "if I could just get that..." to wanting the next thing?
GO DEEPER
(Table leaders: choose 1–2 depending on where the conversation is going.)
- The crowd asks Jesus, "What should we do?" Why do you think doing something or having a checklist can sometimes feel easier than simply trusting someone?
- Jesus says, "I am the bread of life." What do you think he's claiming about himself when he says that?
- We talked about the possibility that we sometimes ask good things to satisfy hungers they were never designed to satisfy. Where do you see that happen most often in our lives?
- Jesus says that whoever comes to him, he will never reject. Does that match the way you've pictured Jesus or God? Why or why not?
- Maybe you believe Jesus is who he says he is. Maybe you're skeptical. Maybe you're somewhere in between. What part of Jesus's claim in John 6 is easiest for you to believe, and what part is hardest?
NEXT STEP
(Table leaders: choose one. Don't rush to fix someone's answer — give people room to be honest.)
- If you're honest, what are you most tempted to think "if I could just get THAT, then I'll finally be good"? What do you think you're actually hoping it will give you?
- Is there something good in your life that you may be asking to carry more weight than it was ever meant to carry?
- What would it look like for you to actually explore Jesus's claim that he can satisfy the deeper hunger underneath the things you're chasing?
- What's one question about Jesus or tonight's conversation that you want to keep thinking about this week?
Optional: "Is there anything from tonight, or anything going on in your life, that you'd like us to pray about?"ut?"
