Where Real Change Actually Starts // The Table Discussion Questions - January 29, 2026

👉 START HERE (Choose 1–2 questions)
These questions are designed to get everyone talking quickly. You do not need to answer all of them. Pick one that feels most alive at your table and start there.

  1. When you hear the phrase “righteousness from the inside out,” what reaction does it stir in you — relief, confusion, resistance, curiosity?
  2. What stood out to you most from tonight’s teaching, and why do you think it connected?
  3. Jesus suggests that real change starts internally, not behaviorally. Where do you most often feel pressure to look right on the outside instead of being honest on the inside?
  4. In your own words, how would you describe the difference between trying harder and being transformed?

🔎 GO DEEPER (Choose 1–2 if time allows)
These questions are for tables that want to explore the ideas more fully. Feel free to skip or jump around.

  1. The teaching suggested that Jesus doesn’t lower the standard — He relocates the source. What do you think that means for everyday life?
  2. Where do you notice the biggest gap between who you want to be and what’s actually happening on the inside of you?
  3. How have rules, expectations, or comparison shaped your understanding of spiritual growth — for better or worse?
  4. What feels risky about slowing down and paying attention to what’s really going on inside you?
  5. Can you think of a season when outward success didn’t match inner health? What did you learn from that?

🚶 NEXT STEP (Choose 1 before you end)
These questions help move the conversation toward action, not perfection.

  1. If real change starts on the inside, what’s one area of your life where you want to be more honest this week?
  2. What might it look like to invite Jesus into that space — not to fix it instantly, but to tell the truth about it?
  3. Is there anyone who would like prayer for an internal struggle they’re tired of carrying alone?

Note:
You don’t need to cover every section. Aim for connection, not completion. If one question opens meaningful conversation, stay there. Let honesty set the pace.
